Boston Officials Reach Agreement With Fourth Marijuana Retail Business

Ascend Mass LLC is ran by former Suffolk County Sheriff Andrea Cabral

Ascend Mass LLC, run by former Suffolk County Sheriff Andrea Cabral, entered into a host community agreement with the city on Nov. 21, the day after the first retail stores in Massachusetts and east of the Mississippi opened elsewhere in the state. The Boston Herald first reported the agreement, which calls for the store’s operating hours to run from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Ascend’s proposal calls for a retail shop at Friend Street, a short walk away from TD Garden, Mass. General Hospital, Boston City Hall, and the Massachusetts State House. The agreement calls for a 3 percent local tax on marijuana sales, on top of the 6.25 percent state sales tax and 10.75 percent excise tax.

The city has also reached agreements with companies named Mayflower, Apothca Inc. and Green Line Boston Inc. Apothca has medical marijuana dispensaries in Arlington and Lynn, and operates a recreational store in Eugene, Oregon, according to its website.
