Maryland Dispensaries Are Open for Business But Out Of Products

Prices were heavily inflated by the state’s lack of supply

Maryland is having a bit of a rough start with the launch of their medical marijuana program. After nearly five years of delays and issues, an excited crowd of qualified patients queued up outside Askinazi’s Potomac Holistics in Rockville, and Allegany Medical Marijuana Dispensary in Cumberland, near the Pennsylvania border, served its first customers last Friday. Per the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission (MMCC) the 10 licensed dispensaries are:

Unfortunately, due to owners not receiving as much product as they thought they were going to get, patients were limited to much less than they are legally allowed to buy and prices were heavily inflated as a result. Allegany Medical Marijuana Dispensary in Cumberland estimated it served about 150 patients for total sales of about $26,000 in the first two days. Patients averaged a little over $200 a transaction. The stores are for the most part now completely sold out of product. The stores are hoping however to restock this week.
