At midday, Sonia Flores deftly rolled three blunts — or large cigarettes filled with the ground leaves of the cannabis plant, commonly referred to as marijuana.
“It’s a good day for New Mexico,” Flores said with a smile.
On Tuesday, the Cannabis Regulation Act went into effect across New Mexico, legalizing recreational cannabis use for adults age 21 and over.
The act allows the possession of up to 2 ounces of cannabis; up to 16 grams of extract; or up to 800 milligrams of edible cannabis per person. New Mexicans can also grow up to six mature cannabis plants and six immature plants, or a maximum of 12 in a household.
