Kentucky Holds First Lottery For Medical Cannabis Dispensary Licenses

There will be 11 licensing regions and each region will get four businesses

Kentucky held the first of two lottery drawings for medical cannabis dispensaries on Monday.

Drawings took place at the Kentucky Lottery’s headquarters in Louisville for nine of Kentucky’s 11 licensing regions, including all of southern and eastern Kentucky, with 36 Kentucky businesses receiving licenses to sell cannabis legally.

Each region will get four businesses.

Sam Flynn of the Team KY Medical Cannabis program says the regions were designed to minimize drive times for those seeking medical cannabis. He says other than Fayette and Jefferson counties, there will only be, at maximum, one dispensary per county.
