Florida-Based Cannabis Company To Close Mass. Facility, Lay Off 157

AYR Wellness is closing its Milford cultivation facility laying off 157 employees

AYR Wellness Inc., a multistate cannabis operator based in Miami, is closing its Milford cultivation facility and will lay off 157 employees, it told the state in a Workers Adjustment and Retraining Act filing on Friday.

The closure is part of a restructuring at AYR, the company said in a press release last week. AYR is selling assets across multiple states to pay out stakeholders, and plans to wind-down the remainder of its operations after liquidating, the company said in the release.

The company has several locations in Massachusetts, including multiple dispensaries in Greater Boston, but the filing includes only jobs in Milford and the company did not immediately respond to a request for additional information about jobs at these locations.

The layoffs will be effective at the end of September, according to the filing. The Milton facility is located 5-7 Industrial Rd.  According to cannabis trade publication MJBizDaily, the company had hundreds of millions in maturing debt and began selling some stores in March.
