Humboldt County California Supervisors OK Easing Cannabis Permitting

Humboldt County is streamlining the permitting process for cannabis cultivation around existing property.
At its regular meeting Tuesday, the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved changes to the county’s cannabis cultivation ordinances to streamline the permitting process for new and existing commercial cannabis cultivation up to 2,000 square feet on five-acre or larger parcels that have homes that have existed before Dec. 31, 2016. The program will be open to applicants until September 2025.
“I think a five-year limit on this provision would really help us understand what we’re doing,” said 3rd District Supervisor Mike Wilson. “And, you know, in five years, if there’s a rush, and we’re seeing a rush, but everything’s fine, we can always extend it because we have done that already.”
The Humboldt County Planning Department is streamlining the process by issuing zoning clearance certificates that have minimal permit requirements and are exempt from road improvement requirements, said Elanah Adler, a planner who worked on the ordinance.
