Nicole Elliott has worked under Mayor Ed Lee and Mayor Gavin Newsom since 2008
San Francisco has appointed an executive director of the new Office of Cannabis to oversee “the monumental task” of rolling out commercial marijuana regulations, City Administrator Naomi Kelly announced Monday.
Kelly announced the appointment of Nicole Elliott as the Office of Cannabis director in a letter to city department heads on Monday that was obtained by the San Francisco Examiner.
Elliott, who has worked under Mayor Ed Lee and Mayor Gavin Newsom since 2008, will lead the department as it presents draft legislation for new rules governing marijuana to the mayor and Board of Supervisors in September.
“She is uniquely qualified to assist The City with developing cannabis regulations and equity programs at a time when the state is moving swiftly in preparation for 2018 rollout of commercial cannabis,” Kelly wrote.
Elliott has served as the director of government affairs and liaison to the Board of Supervisors for Lee.
