Cannabis Sales Surpass $3B In Massachusetts

The $3 billion milestone was reported on May 14th

Adult-use marijuana gross sales have surpassed $3 billion in Massachusetts, the Cannabis Control Commission announced on Wednesday.

This comes only eight months after the commission reported that marijuana establishments surpassed $2 billion in gross sales on Aug. 31, 2021. Since then, 54 more retailers have opened their doors in Massachusetts, with five more marijuana couriers.

The first billion in sales was reached in October of 2020.

“These sales figures illustrate the steady growth Massachusetts residents expected when they voted to legalize adult-use cannabis in 2016, and the commission was appointed in 2017,” Commission Executive Director Shawn Collins said in a press release. “I’m proud our staff continue to work diligently to ensure applicants move through our licensing process efficiently, marijuana establishments operate within a safe, accessible and effective regulated market, and our work to ensure equity in the industry and the agency remains front and center.”

The $3 billion milestone, measured since the first two retail stores opened in December of 2018, was reported on May 14 and was achieved by 216 marijuana retailers and 11 delivery businesses from across the state.

Alongside the growth in sales, the commission also reported some industry records.
