CA’s Proposition 64’s Ad Restrictions Force Removal Of I-10 Cannabis Billboards

The announcement follows a San Luis Obispo County Superior Court decision

As the cannabis industry has grown in the Coachella Valley, so have the number of cannabis advertisements lining Interstate 10 between Palm Springs and Indio.

But, according to a recent order by the state Bureau of Cannabis Control, these advertisements will need to come down.

On Jan. 22, the agency announced that billboards advertising cannabis will no longer be allowed along highways that cross the state border, including Interstate 10. 

The announcement follows a San Luis Obispo County Superior Court decision that found the Bureau of Cannabis Control’s prior regulations violated Proposition 64, a 2016 voter-approved ballot measure that legalized marijuana for recreational use, but also placed restrictions on advertisements.
