CO Retail Is Growing Like A Weed
The total number of active marijuana businesses is now at an all-time record high
If you think the legal marijuana industry is big in Colorado, you’re not high. According to a study by Denver University Assistant Professor of Business Paul Seaborn, the number of active Colorado marijuana licenses is at an all-time, uh, record. His latest “Colorado Marijuana Market Report,” a quarterly update, found there are 3,028 active marijuana business licenses in the state, the most since residents voted to legalize recreational marijuana in 2012. This is up nearly 17 percent from his last report in April.
“The total number of active marijuana business licenses issued by the Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division continues to grow and is now at an all-time record high,” says Seaborn. According to his report, 50.7 percent of active licenses are for medical marijuana (down from 52.5 percent in April) and 49.3 percent are for recreational/retail businesses (up from 47.5 percent).
