Massachusetts Cannabis Regulators Crack Down On inaccurate THC Labels
New requirements have also been implemented for transparency
The Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission is auditing THC potency levels on product labels to ensure public health and safety.
The agency announced on Monday that the marijuana and marijuana products sold in Massachusetts must bear a label detailing the types of cannabinoids and their respective amounts. If it is determined that the product’s THC potency is beyond 75 to 125% of what is reflected on the label, it will be removed from the market until the resolved.
“Verifying that marijuana and marijuana products are accurately labeled is critical to the Commission’s mission of safely, equitably, and effectively providing Massachusetts residents access to this industry,” Executive Director Travis Ahern said. “This effort aims to improve patient and consumer awareness statewide and takes into consideration that THC potency is variable for marijuana flower products, it degrades over time when it is stored, and other factors.”
The Commission says it has taken several steps in recent months to strengthen product testing and oversight across the state. Updated testing protocols were approved and released to independent testing laboratories (ITLs) for review.
