Greenleaf will be the 11th medical marijuana dispensary to make a home in Northern Nevada, though only the third to settle in Sparks aside from Silver State Relief and Reef Dispensaries.
Sparks is the only local entity that currently protects the identities of medical marijuana business licensees, a policy that the Reno Gazette-Journal last year challenged in court. The Nevada Supreme Court heard arguments in the case earlier this year and has yet to make a decision.
“Never did I think my family and I would be working in the marijuana industry,” said Tammy Kolvet, who is a vice president along with her elder brother, Steven Duque.
The sibling pair previously worked under their now 71-year-old father, former Castaway president Spike Duque, who sold Castaway to Waste Management in 2013.
“He tells us what we’re doing and we follow,” Kolvet said.
