Trumbull CT Extends Cannabis Moratorium As Sweetspot Dispensary Makes Pitch To Expand Into Town

The 4-1 vote happened last Wednesday

A moratorium prohibiting cannabis establishments in Trumbull has been extended. However, a cannabis business with dispensaries in Fairfield and Hartford counties said it’s interested in expanding to town.

The Planning and Zoning Commission approved extending the moratorium in a 4-1 vote Wednesday, making it the fourth extension since the moratorium was established in August 2021, two months after Gov. Ned Lamont signed SB-1201, which legalized recreational marijuana in the state. Legal retail sales of recreational cannabis began in the state in January 2023.

Ben Herbst, chief business development officer at Sweetspot Cannabis Dispensary in Stamford, asked the commission not to extend the moratorium and said the company is interested in expanding into Trumbull.
