Sky Siegel is the Operations Manager of Absolute Herbal Pain Solutions in Los Angeles, California.
How did you first get into the cannabis space?
A few years back, I sustained a spinal injury resulting in 5 epidurals and a microdiscectomy that left me in a dazed world of rotating opiate prescriptions. After discovering how my endocannabinoid system could help alleviate my ailments, I knew I wanted to pair my experience with passion and elevate cannabis concepts to the next level.
Which products are your best sellers?
Kiva edibles and Kurvana vape cartridges. These two companies reliably deliver in terms of consistency and potency. Being enjoyable [and] delicious means our patients rave about them and their efficacy. At the end of the day, that’s what matters to most people.
What is the most rewarding part of running a dispensary? Most difficult?
The most rewarding part is knowing that what we’re doing is helping people and changing lives for the better. We see it every day. The most difficult part would be challenging the misconceptions that we’re all greedy drug dealers who don’t care about the quality of products or the patients themselves. Actions speak louder than words. Old stigmas will eventually fade away, but it takes time to change hearts and minds.
What sets your shop apart?
Aside from being right off the 10 freeway, with an exit ramp that practically lands you on our doorstep, we are more than just a storefront. We want to get to know our patients, learn about their needs, and develop relationships with our local community. We have a full cultivation facility on-site as well as some exciting projects in the works. I can’t tell you how cool it’s going to be, but you’ll want to experience it for yourself.
What piece of advice would you give to new brands trying to get on shelves?
Provide terms or goods on consignment! Most new shops need time to generate a positive cash flow. Being flexible on payments is a tremendous win for all parties. Your brand is on the shelves and in the hands of patients instead of sitting around.
What advice would you give to someone interested in opening their own shop?
Do it right: be well capitalized and seed a great team. You need the financial stability and the right people in place to grow your dream into reality.
What new products are you most excited about carrying?
Hmbldt vaporizers with a variety of custom specific formulations ranging from Arouse to Sleep. Are you rolling out any new shop features or locations in the near future?
We’re rolling out online ordering for those who are commuters or simply in a rush, some spiffy new loyalty rewards incentives, and co-developing exclusive events with our Master Grower Russell Akiyama.
What are your thoughts about future legislation at your local and state levels? Are there any particular industry or legal shifts that are you’re concerned or excited about?
Our talented team is actively engaged with groups like Angeles Emeralds and the Los Angeles Cannabis Task Force to help reshape the legislative landscape. You’ll find us at most cannabis-related city hall and board of supervisors meetings. As we look to the future of recreational markets and legislation… it’s so important to get involved.
