Atlantic City’s ‘Cannabis Czar’ Charged With Bribery In Connection With Local Dispensary
McKinley has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the case
A member of Atlantic City’s Cannabis Review Board was charged Thursday in connection with a cannabis bribery scheme, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of New Jersey.
Kashawn McKinley, 42, is the director of constituent services in Atlantic City and is a member of the Atlantic City School Board, the office said.
McKinley has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the case, according to a joint statement issued Friday by Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small, Sr., and his attorney, Edwin J. Jacobs.
“Mayor Small makes no judgment on the accuracy of claims in that complaint because this is America; he believes in the justice system, and Kashawn McKinley is innocent until proven guilty, like any other American,” according to the statement.
On his LinkedIn page, he refers to himself as “Atlantic City’s Cannabis Czar.”
