Vermont Lawmakers Approve Modest Changes To Cannabis Market
Gov. Scott’s office says the bill will be given a thorough review
Lawmakers have scaled back a plan to expand Vermont’s retail cannabis marketplace.
A bill headed to Gov. Phil Scott’s desk would increase the daily amount of cannabis flower a person can purchase from 1 ounce to 2 ounces. It would also allow licensed retailers to sell cannabis at a limited number of public events.
But to the dismay of cannabis growers, House lawmakers nixed a pilot program that would have allowed up to 15 cultivators to deliver cannabis directly to consumers.
They also removed a provision giving towns greater zoning authority when it comes to siting retail stores.
Sen. Kesha Ram Hinsdale, the bill’s lead sponsor, told her colleagues that the scaled-back changes still represented “a valuable step forward.”
