Women are enthusiastic about weed, both as customers and as entrepreneurs wanting to get in on the ground floor of this budding enterprise. And they are breaking into the industry in impressive numbers. A 2015 study found that of all executive positions in the cannabis industry, thirty-six percent of those positions are held by women. This is especially true within testing labs, weed-infused products businesses and ancillary endeavors.
And on July 22nd, female leaders in the industry from across the country will be in attendance of the Cannabis Business Women’s Empowerment Summit. Located in Los Angeles, California, the summit aims to guide, inform and educate women who want to break into the legal weed game, as well as those who want to expand and develop their existing ventures. There will be a unique focus on pairing newcomers to the business with mentors.
“There are more women leaders in the cannabis industry than any other industry,” you will find written on the summit’s website.
Speakers and/or mentors at the summit will include:
- Sara Batterby, President and CEO of HiFI Farms in Oregon
- Celeste Miranda, founder of the Cannabis Marketing Lab in California
- Ariel Clark of the Clark Neubert law firm, which specializes in the cannabis business
- Alexis d’Angelo, LA-based tech expert and Vice President of Business Development at Women Grow
There will be numerous panels of discussion at this summit. Topics will range from business startup issues, like obtaining the funding to get your company off the ground, to helping women to become more assertive in a business environment and “learn to say no.” As much as the summit is about business, it is just as much about women, and the driving force that they have been-and will continue to be-in the weed industry.
